The Latest from St. Malachy!

Congratulations to St. Malachy’s Eighth Grade class, shown celebrating their June 9th graduation with proud faculty members! Our graduates will be attending the following high schools in the fall:

Mercy Career & Technical High School: 6 grads; Cristo Rey High School: 3 grads; other Catholic high schools: 3 grads; charter school high schools: 4 grads.

One of our graduates was awarded a Neumann Scholarship from the Connelly Foundation! This is a full 4-year scholarship to an Archdiocesan high school!

We wish them all the best and we are confident they will all excel in their high-school years.

Once again this year, St. Malachy will host the Malachy Proud Summer Program in July.   Almost 100 children have registered already. There will be academics in the morning and sports, music, dancing and more in the afternoon, including a student production of Frozen!

We have big news to share about our teaching and administrative staff. First, our teaching staff remains solid. Most of our teachers have been here at least seven years and we had zero teacher turnover this year! This is a testament to the culture of love and dedication to our students that Principal Steve Janczewski, known to all as “Mr. J,” has instilled in the staff. Our teachers have a tremendous sense of commitment to our school.

In June, Mr. J was promoted  to Director of School Leadership for Independence Mission Schools (IMS).  In that role,  he will work with the principals at IMS schools (including St. Malachy!) to build a strong culture and a strong staff at each school. We will miss Mr. J’s day-to-day presence at St. Malachy, but we wish him much success! The good news is that our Assistant Principal, Ms. Betsy Rafferty, and our Dean of Students, Mr. Bill Eichler, will both move up to be the new Principal and Assistant Principal, respectively. Mr. Kevin Hartley, the current Director of Enrichment Programs, will become the new Dean of Students. Ms. Rafferty, Mr. Eichler and Mr. Kevin have been with St. Malachy for years and will continue to build a strong school for St. Malachy students.

And we have more awards to tell you about!

Our Enrollment/Tuition Director, Ms. Sandy Johnson-Dockery was awarded the St. Katharine Drexel award  for her outstanding service, commitment and dedication to Independence Mission Schools. Congratulations, Sandy!

Donor and volunteer Betsy Donohoe received the Angel of the School Award for outstanding volunteerism! Betsy is a former teacher who has volunteered in the classroom with our young students for years. Congratulations and thank you, Ms. Donohue!

And we are happy to tell you that St. Malachy pastor emeritus, Fr. John McNamee, celebrated his 90th birthday in May! He is doing well and still cares very much for the parishioners and children at St. Malachy Parish and School.

If you know a family who would like their child (or children) to attend St. Malachy School, simply encourage them to visit this website and click on “Admissions” at the top of this page.

We wish all our students and their families a safe and happy summer. We’ll see some of you in July at our Summer Program and we look forward to seeing all our students in September!
